Our Apple Day and Autumn Festival become part of BBC Radio Devon's 'core' programming when DJ Jo Loosemore interviewed some of the team in the middle of this year's Apple Day.
She spoke to Katie Tokus, our marketing officer, Jesse Hammond, our gardener and visiting apple storyteller Sara Hurley, during this year's Apple Day.
Jesse told Jo about the varieties of apples grown at Sharpham in our orchards, and the importance of preserving old and rare breeds that may be lost without careful nurturing.
Meanwhile, Katie talked about the Apple Olympics - apple-themed games and activities that happened on the Croquet Lawn on the day.
Sara spoke about apple folklore and stories, before heading back to the event to mesmerise children (and parents) with her tales under the yew tree.
Listen to the interview here:
The day was a success and hundreds of apples were juiced by Jesse and his team, using a press loaned from Orchard Link
Visiting stallholders included South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, who helped spread even more apple knowledge, and Food in the Community who cooked up tasty apple fritters.
Locals brought their own apples to be juiced, taking home half and leaving us with half to sell.
