Sharpham in Shalborne

24th October, 2024

The Sharpham Estate appears in a new, indie movie that is showing locally this Autumn.

Shalborne is a romantic, historical drama filmed across South Devon and Sharpham's very own holiday let The Bathing House is one of the locations, appearing at various points in the movie.

The film - tagged 'a personal revolution by a woman ahead of her time' - has been written, produced, directed and acted in by Caroline Corrie - who also lives in The South Hams.

The story's main protagonist, Helen, leaves her oppressive husband and finds refuge on the 'Shalborne' estate where Lord Shalborne gives Helen and her sick father safe 'lodgings' in the Bathing House.

Said Caroline: "It looks very beautiful and quintessentially English. We never went inside to film so we used another location to represent the interiors, so the actual Bathing House appears at points in the film as an establishing shot".

The film is doing the festival circuit and has already been awarded the Best Foreign Feature Film prize at Toronto's Female Eye Film Festival.

It is being screened in Devon and Somerset including Dartington's Barn Cinema on Saturday 26 October. See all the screening times and venues here
