The Cairn of Wisdom at The Barn - retreats for elders

During the 2023 Over-55s retreat, the group ritually created a small cairn in the gravel garden at the front of The Barn.

As each person laid a stone, they offered words of wisdom gleaned from some 1000 years of their collective lived experience to each other, the land and to future retreatants.

Here are some of those words:

• We have been ageing since the day we were born.
• Trust, trust, trust, cherish, trust, with joy.
• Be yourself - everyone else is taken.
• May all the grandmothers send us light.
• Don’t take it personally.
• The Earth wants us to tread lightly.
• May you have ease of being.
• Om Mani Padme Hum.
• Remain open to all and not make a judgement about those we do not know.
• Always look on the bright side of life
• Each day you can make a difference. Choose wisely.
• Change is good.
• May we learn to love all of ourselves.
