Esteemed landscape historian John Phibbs leads a guided walk at Sharpham and shares our fascinating architecture and parkland with you.
In this two-hour walk, John will uncover some of the rich history within our River Dart setting, he'll discuss the design features of 18th century Sharpham House and grounds and he'll be musing on the underlying mindset of the owners & the rural culture of the time.
While we have no proof on paper, it is thought that famed landscape designer Capability Brown sculpted the parkland that surrounds Sharpham House - and John Phibbs will explain why during this absorbing event.
He'll also be bringing the stories up to date, covering The Sharpham Trust's work with the landscape - preserving the historic parkland, planting (and re-planting) trees and ensuring that the grounds support human and wildlife side-by-side.
This is a rare chance to visit and discover more about Sharpham's history, from one of the UK's leading landscape historians.
10.15am - meet in Green Parking Bays (parking also available by walled garden/coach house).
Event finishes at approx 12.30pm
We're a 550-acre estate on the banks of the River Dart, set within a National Landscape Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
We've been designated organic and we're rewilding parts of the estate, helping to restore nature and to connect people to the land and themselves through our programme of retreats, courses and events.
