A bat detector positioned on the Sharpham Estate has shown us exactly how batty we are.

Over the course of a single week, the Anabat detector placed near our Woodland Campsite showed that 8 different bat species flew by.

Bats detected included:

  • Common pipistrelle
  • Soprano
  • Noctule/Leisler/Serotine
  • Greater Horseshoe
  • Lesser horseshoe
  • Long-eared pipistrelle
  • Myotis
  • Barbastelle

We’re one of the few places in the UK and Europe where the Greater Horseshoe Bat can be found. We’re partnering with the Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project and the Devon Wildlife Trust on the bat detecting and on a Bat, Moth & Stargazing event on Friday 22 September at Sharpham.
